In my experience as a HVAC technician and as a HVAC contractor at newtons heating and air conditioning i can safely say there is many variables to doing a good quality installation. First and foremost what i ask every customer when they ask me for a quote is why they are replacing their system or wanting to do a Ac installation. A lot of the times its because another company has condemned their unit, this is why i also recommend getting multiple quotes and 2nd opinions. I can not count how many times i have been able to do ac repair after another company has condemned it. Also i can not express how much the price can vary from company to company. Some red flags you can look for is them wanting to rip out the equipment the same day to lock you in with their service. I have also seen companies have been almost 3 times more expensive then my company which is just in of itself is very crazy and i would go as far as to say unethical. Today what i want to talk about is actually over sizing your equipment which i see way to often. Here in Florida we have a very tropical climate so our home always deals with a high amount of humidity. You can have humidity problems for multiple reasons. The most common problem is that your home is not seal tight and what is air for outside will leak into your home making it feel sticky even at low temperature’s. That’s why sometimes 75 degrees in the summer time can feel freezing while in the winter time it can feel hot. Your HVAC system actually dehumidifies the air as it runs but it needs to runs at least 10 to 15 minutes to achieve this. So you will have a salesmen come out to give you a quote and say why don’t we go with a bigger system? It seems like a smart idea at the time. The bigger the ac the better it cools right? Well bigger isn’t always better and so what happens is when your new ac is installed, it will cool down to quickly and not dehumidify the air causing it to feel very sticky. I  have even been to customers homes where it will feel like it just  got done raining in their home in the middle of summer. The general practice is if your home was cooling properly before then you go back with the same size. This is just one of the problems you can face when increase the tonnage of your ac equipment. So in conclusion for your Ac tip. It is very rare to need to increase the size of your system unless you really increased your cooling area. Its is not only important to pick out a good HVAC contractor but that they send out a good HVAC technician so that they do not try to upsell you a new ac system that is to big for your for reason.
