In my experience as a HVAC technician and now as the HVAC contractor of newtons heating and air conditioning i have tried to learn the mistakes of my past employers to better service my customers. One of our main motto is ” Are you tired of pushy HVAC salesmen trying to sell you a new unit over a minor problem?”. This is because of working in the HVAC industry i have realized how sales driven our industry has become and i am committed to being different. I remember working at a larger company that is one of the most popular companies in Pinellas county and they would actually pull up your sales for that week on a projector screen with all of the other employees in a conference room and if you lagged behind you guessed it you got fired. This is a problem because it breeds dishonesty for HVAC technicians and i strive to be different as a HVAC contractor. I try to treat my customer’s the same way i would of liked to be treated if i didn’t know anything about ac. We truly do want to fix your unit and replace last. I had a customer that had a more high efficiency unit and it had a bad evaporator fan motor. The unit was out of warranty and another company had given her a quote that was over $2000. With that being said the motor was a very expensive fan motor to buy. Most companies would just give you the option to replace the motor or try to steer you towards getting a HVAC installation. This is where it comes in of why we send tradesmen and not salesmen due to our over 30 years of experience in the air conditioning industry. We come out to see if the evaporator fan was actually bad and it really was but what we could do it actually convert her motor into something called a psc fan motor. These motor are what all of older equipment had but the government or the united states department of energy put regulation’s on equipment so manufactures on how energy efficient all new equipment had to be. So they came up with all new parts like ecm fan motors instead of psc fan motors to help with the energy efficiency. For example for this fan motor it used to just have a capacitor and relay to turn the motor off and on. Now it has a module on them which is basically a computer board. This did make them a bit more energy efficient but at a great finical cost to you the homeowner when the parts break. So you save a little bit more money on your electric bill but now when your unit breaks it can be triple the cost to fix it. Do you ever wonder why your parents ac lasted 30 years and your lucky to get 15 years out of your equipment? Its because they changed all of the parts on your ac to high efficiency parts but at the cost of them breaking more often and costing much more to repair. So what we did is convert the motor back to what the older motors were that almost never break and did all of that for under 1000 dollars.
