Our topic for today: In my experience as a HVAC technician in Clearwater Florida and as a HVAC contractor at newtons heating and air conditioning i have found numerous benefits of getting an HVAC service. When we are talking about HVAC service we are talking about getting an Ac maintenance. One of the main things you do on a maintenance for any company is clean the drain line. I would say maybe out of 10, 4 of our Ac service calls is related to the drain line being clogged. How it works is your Ac makes condensation, this is because you have a evaporator coil that gets cold like a soda can on a hot day. this makes it condensate and then your drain lines job is to take all of this condensation and put it outside. you can typically find this 3/4 of a inch PVC pipe typically right next to your condensing unit but depending on how your house is set up it can also be in many different locations but all the same they typically go outside somewhere. You may also have a condensate pump, in that case what happens is your drain line goes into your condensate pump and then it pump it outside vs a normal drain line being gravity feed. ether way what happens is because there is constant water in these condensate pumps or drain line it builds algae. When your drain line backs up it goes into something called a float switch and its job is to shut off the unit and prevent any water dumping onto your floor or celling depending on where your unit is located. So this is where your HVAC service or Ac maintenance comes into play. What we would do is clear this pipe to prevent the algae from building up to much and backing up to your system. If you are unlucky the company that installed your unit may have not put in your float switch, which i have seen a million times before and can actually cause water damage. This is also where getting a Ac maintenance comes into play so we can not only check if they have been installed but if they are working properly. Now this typical HVAC repair could not only been prevented but by getting a Ac maintenance it could save you 100’s of dollars in costly Ac repairs.
