Our topic for today: In my experience as a HVAC technician in Clearwater Florida and as a HVAC contractor at newtons heating and air conditioning I can safely say the most important day of your ac life is, is the day of your HVAC installation. There is standard practices every company should do, but unfortunately i see in the field a lot do not, and tend to cut corners. One of the most important things you need to do is pull a proper vacuum on your ac system. You maybe wondering what that even means and i will try to explain. So in the air we have humidity especially Clearwater Florida with our tropical climate. On your ac system you have 2 copper pipes that connect your indoor unit or air handler and your outdoor unit or condenser. What happens is after you braze those line and seal them you need to pressure check them with dry nitrogen to ensure there is no leaks and you pull a vacuum. How we do this is through a tool called a vacuum pump. The epa and your equipment manufacture have a rating or measure of how much moister can be allowed to be left in the system. They call this reading microns and is a measurement of moister in your system and you want no more than 500 microns in your system. Why is this important? Because those two copper pipes i mention have refrigerant going through them. When moister comes in contact with this refrigerant it causes acid to form. This is determinantal for your ac system and can cause your compressor to go bad very prematurely. Nothing is worse when you have to replace your compressor on a 2 year old system and have to get rid of all of the refrigerant which can cost over $1500 dollars with a reasonably priced company in Clearwater Florida. Worst yet if the same people that installed come back they can again not pull a proper vacuum and you have to restart the process all over again.
