The reason it is wet and damp is because of your evaporator coil which gets to 40 degrees, so it sweats like a soda can on a hot day. So what is the problem of having biological growth in your HVAC system? Well firstly it can greatly reduce the indoor air quality in your home. All of your indoor air passing through your air handler or evaporator coil and that air gets distributed into your home through your air vents. This is Where all of the biological growth gets built up at. The 2nd problem is if your evaporator coil does get built up with biological growth it can greatly reduce air flow. That can cause damage not only to your evaporator fan motor which is already a expensive enough of a HVAC repair but also damage your compressor.
